Pet-Friendly Attractions in Angers

A 13th-century cliff-top fortress with 17 black-schist towers and over 700 m of defensive walls, housing the Tapestry of the Apocalypse, the largest medieval tapestry in the world. Dogs on leash are welcome on the outer ramparts walk and in the moat gardens (free public access); the keep, chapel, and tapestry gallery do not admit dogs.

Angers' medieval left-bank quarter, with timber-framed houses around Place de la Laiterie, Place du Tertre Saint-Laurent and the Hôpital Saint-Jean. Almost entirely pedestrian, with dog-friendly café terraces and pavement-art trails leading from the Pont de Verdun.

France's tallest inhabited chateau (7 floors, 204 rooms) sits in a 70-hectare park 15 km south of Angers, where leashed dogs are welcomed on the park grounds and English-style gardens. The interior is reserved for guided tours where dogs are not admitted, but the exterior grounds make an excellent half-day excursion.
