Pet-Friendly Attractions in Amsterdam

Amsterdam's most romantic and photogenic neighbourhood, the Jordaan is a tangle of 17th-century canals, narrow cobblestone streets, independent galleries, cheese shops, flower stalls, and neighbourhood cafés that have barely changed in decades. Dogs are not just tolerated here. They're part of the scenery. Most terrace cafés along the Prinsengracht, Brouwersgracht, and Bloemgracht actively welcome dogs, and the neighbourhood's relaxed pace makes it perfect for a long morning walk. Running for over a century along the Albert Cuypstraat in the De Pijp neighbourhood, this is Europe's longest outdoor market. A 260-metre stretch of over 300 stalls selling everything from fresh stroopwafels and raw herring to fabrics, spices, and electronics. Dogs on leash are extremely common here, weaving between shoppers and stalls with the market's enthusiastic permission. It's busy, loud, and completely alive. One of the most authentic Amsterdam experiences you can have. Combine it with coffee at one of the surrounding brown cafés in De Pijp, most of which welcome dogs.

The NDSM Werf is Amsterdam's most audaciously creative neighbourhood: a former shipyard of enormous scale, now home to artists' studios, street art covering entire warehouse walls, independent restaurants, a weekend flea market, and some of the best views of the Amsterdam skyline across the IJ river. The free GVB ferry from behind Amsterdam Central Station takes 15 minutes and dogs travel at no charge.

Founded in 1638, the Hortus Botanicus is one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world and a haven of calm in the middle of the city. Its collection spans thousands of plant species from across the globe, displayed across outdoor gardens, a monumental palm greenhouse, a butterfly house, and a three-climate greenhouse. Dogs are welcome in all the outdoor garden areas, making it an genuinely beautiful place for a slow morning walk. The on-site café (De Plantenkas) has a dog-friendly terrace. Open only from late March to mid-May, Keukenhof is the largest flower garden in the world and one of the Netherlands' most spectacular annual events. Seven million tulips, daffodils, and hyacinths bloom across 32 hectares of landscaped gardens, pavilions, and windmill-dotted pathways in Lisse, 35 km southwest of Amsterdam. Dogs are genuinely welcome here. On a leash in all outdoor areas. Which makes it one of the few world-class tourist attractions where you don't have to leave your pet behind.
