Almería has kilometres of coastline, but dog access is tightly regulated. Across Andalusia, dogs are banned from regular bathing beaches and the water during the summer season, generally from 1 June to 30 September. The official dog beach nearest the city is El Bobar; outside summer, the long urban beaches and many Cabo de Gata coves are walkable with a leashed dog. The single most important rule here is paw safety: dark sand in Almería gets dangerously hot, so visit at dawn or after sunset and keep a dog off bare sand in the heat of the day.
