Dog-Friendly Attractions in A Coruña

The Roman lighthouse built in the 1st-2nd century AD and the only Roman lighthouse still in service in the world, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2009. The 55 m tower stands on a clifftop at the northern edge of the city, surrounded by a 47-hectare sculpture park and a continuous 4 km clifftop trail with whale and dolphin sightings in spring and autumn. Dogs on lead are welcome on the entire surrounding park and trail; the lighthouse interior does not admit dogs (assistance dogs only).

The iconic glass galleries of the Avenida de la Marina earned A Coruña its nickname of 'the crystal city', a continuous rank of white-painted miradores facing the harbour, behind which the porticoed Plaza de María Pita opens with the early 20th-century Ayuntamiento. Dogs on lead are welcome along the Marina promenade, the harbour-side gardens and the entire square; cafés along the arcades take dogs at outdoor tables.

A 16th-century island fortress at the eastern entrance to the harbour, originally built to defend the city against English raids and now home to the Museo Arqueológico e Histórico. Dogs on lead are welcome on the causeway, the surrounding rocks and the outdoor parade ground with bay views; the museum interior does not admit dogs (assistance dogs only). The Castillo marks the eastern end of the 13 km Paseo Marítimo.
