Torre de Hércules (UNESCO)
Punta Eiras
The Roman lighthouse built in the 1st-2nd century AD and the only Roman lighthouse still in service in the world, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2009. The 55 m tower stands on a clifftop at the northern edge of the city, surrounded by a 47-hectare sculpture park and a continuous 4 km clifftop trail with whale and dolphin sightings in spring and autumn. Dogs on lead are welcome on the entire surrounding park and trail; the lighthouse interior does not admit dogs (assistance dogs only).
💡 Walk up from the Paseo Marítimo at sunset for the most dramatic UNESCO Roman lighthouse silhouette. Keep your dog close to the inland side of the trail in strong westerlies.
