| National Rail (North Wales Coast Line) | Under the National Rail Conditions of Travel, up to two dogs travel free with each passenger, on a lead or in a carrier, and not on the seats. Conwy is a request stop on the North Wales Coast Line run by Transport for Wales; the main interchange, Llandudno Junction, is one stop away and has frequent services along the coast to Chester and Holyhead and up the scenic Conwy Valley Line. | 💡 |
| Conwy Valley Line | The scenic Conwy Valley Line runs from Llandudno Junction up the valley through Betws-y-Coed into the heart of Eryri (Snowdonia) at Blaenau Ffestiniog. Dogs travel free as on all National Rail services, making it a lovely dog-friendly way to reach the mountains and forest walks without a car. | 💡 |
| Local buses and taxis | The coastal bus services linking Conwy, Llandudno, Llandudno Junction and the valley generally accept dogs at the driver's discretion; keep the dog on a lead and off the seats. Taxis are also at the driver's discretion, so mention the dog when you book. | 💡 |
Conwy is on the North Wales coast at the mouth of the Conwy estuary. By rail the easiest approach is to Llandudno Junction, one stop across the estuary and a short walk or bus over the bridge into Conwy, all dog-friendly and free for up to two dogs. The nearest airports are Manchester (MAN) and Liverpool (LPL), each about an hour and a half away by road; drivers will find the walled town centre compact, so the car parks by the quay and station are the easy option with a dog.
Once you are in, Conwy is best explored on foot: the castle, the quay, the Smallest House and the walled streets are all a short walk apart, and the estuary path leads straight out towards the marina and Conwy Morfa. The town is busy on summer weekends, so early mornings and evenings are the calmest times to walk a dog, and the surrounding hills are only minutes away.
