Hondvriendelijke bezienswaardigheden in Cassis

The pretty fishing port is the beating heart of Cassis: bobbing boats, pastel facades, the Quai des Baux lined with terraces, and Cap Canaille rising behind it all. Strolling the quays and the old cobbled streets with a leashed dog is the quintessential Cassis experience, and the whole area is relaxed and welcoming to dogs.

Cap Canaille is one of the highest sea cliffs in Europe, rising some 394 metres straight out of the Mediterranean, and the Route des Cretes ridge road runs about 15 km along the cliffs between Cassis and La Ciotat with breathtaking viewpoints and easy parking. Dogs on a leash are welcome at the clifftop belvederes, and since 2024 the road is pedestrianised on Sundays for a calmer, traffic-free walk.

Sheltered beneath Cap Canaille, the AOC Cassis vineyards form one of France's oldest appellations, classified since 1936 and famous for crisp white wines made for the sea. Several estates open for tastings, and the surrounding lanes make a gentle dog walk outside the national park; dogs are generally welcome in the open-air courtyards of the domaines, though not always in cellars.
