Bruges

The "Lake of Love" and its surrounding park are a favourite with local dog walkers. The wide gravel paths circle the romantic lake and connect to the Begijnhof, a peaceful off-leash walk in the early morning.

The canal towpaths running along the Groenerei and Dijver are perfect for a slow, scenic dog walk. Wide enough to avoid crowds before 10am, lined with weeping willows and medieval façades.

Bruges's main city park, with a bandstand, large pond and open lawns. Dogs on lead are welcome throughout; an enclosed dog run area is available near the northwest corner.

The two central squares are accessible with dogs on lead. The café terraces around the Markt are very dog-friendly, it's not unusual to see dogs tied to chair legs while owners enjoy a Trappist beer.

The iconic 83m bell tower involves a narrow 366-step climb and is not accessible for dogs. Admire it from the Markt square instead.
