The car-free island in the middle of the Danube is Budapest's best dog walk: 2.5km of shaded paths, a running track, fountains and a dedicated kutyafuttató (dog run) at the northern tip. Dogs on lead are welcome everywhere.

The forested hills of western Buda offer hours of off-leash hiking. The Hármashatárhegy and Normafa areas are popular with locals and their dogs on weekends, wild trails, clean air and city views.

Budapest's grand public park, home to Vajdahunyad Castle and the Széchenyi thermal baths. Dogs on lead are welcome in the park grounds; the large kutyafuttató near the Olof Palme sétány is a social hub for local dog owners.

The riverside promenade on the Pest bank, with views of Buda Castle and the Chain Bridge. Relaxed, wide, and welcoming to dogs. Many of the café terraces along here will bring a water bowl without being asked.

Thermal baths are not accessible to dogs. They are a Budapest highlight but require leaving your pet at the hotel. Book accommodation with secure on-site storage or garden access for these visits.
