Getting Around Zandvoort with a Dog

The town's railway station sits just a few minutes' walk from the boulevard and beach, with direct NS services from Haarlem in about ten minutes and easy connections from Amsterdam Centraal, usually with one change at Haarlem. It is the stress-free way to arrive with a dog, avoiding summer parking queues entirely. Trains run frequently through the day and extra services are laid on for busy beach weekends.

For any dog too big to travel in a bag on your lap, the Dagkaart Hond is the single ticket you need. It costs 3.70 euros in 2026, covers your dog for the whole day across NS domestic trains, and is bought alongside your own fare. Small dogs carried in a bag or basket ride free and need no ticket at all. The dog must stay on the lead and off the seats throughout the journey.

Regional Connexxion and R-Net buses link Zandvoort with Haarlem, the dunes and neighbouring coastal towns, useful for reaching the Kennemerland park entrances or Bloemendaal aan Zee without a car. The same dog rules apply as on the train: small dogs in a bag travel free, larger dogs on the lead, off the seats. Services are less frequent than the train, so check timetables, especially in the evening and in winter.
