Best Dog-Friendly Parks in Villach

The R1 Drauradweg long-distance cycle and walking route runs east to west through Villach along both banks of the Drava, with continuous tree shade, water access for thirsty dogs, and gentle paved or gravel surfaces. The 5 km segment between Lind and Maria Gail is the city's go-to flat dog walk.

Villach's main central park immediately south of the Altstadt, a large open green of mature trees, gravel paths and a pond, popular with morning dog walkers. Dogs must be leashed in the central lawns and playground areas but the perimeter loop suits a relaxed 30-minute walk.

The 2,166 m Dobratsch nature park rises directly above Villach and is reached by the 16.5 km Villacher Alpenstraße toll panorama road, with several leash-friendly trailheads at Rosstratte, Aichingerhuette and the summit cable mast. The signed Hundetraille and Eggerwiesen loops offer alpine meadows and forest with views across to Slovenia.
