Villach's compact pedestrian Altstadt rewards a leashed dog walk: the Renaissance Hauptplatz arcades, the Trinity Column, the 14th-century Stadtpfarrkirche tower (exterior) and the Drau-side Drauboulevard cover the main sights in 90 minutes. Outside the centre, the Dobratsch panorama road and the lakeside promenades extend the day for active dogs.

The long Renaissance Hauptplatz is the heart of the city, lined with arcaded facades, the 18th-century Trinity Column and pavement cafe terraces. The whole square is pedestrian and welcomes leashed dogs day and night.
💡 Walk the square at dusk when the limestone facades catch warm light and the cafe terraces are at their busiest, perfect for a dog people-watching spot.
Altstadt
The 14th-century Gothic parish church of Saint Jakob dominates the eastern Hauptplatz, with a 95 m tower offering the best Altstadt panorama. Dogs welcome on the surrounding pedestrian Kirchplatzl; interior reserved for assistance dogs only.
💡 If you climb the tower, tie your dog to the friendly Kirchplatzl kiosk for 20 minutes; the keeper is used to short dog-sits during tower visits.
Landskron
12th-century hilltop castle ruin 4 km east of Villach with sweeping views across the Ossiacher See and the Karawanken range. The ruined courtyards, ramparts and lower gardens accept leashed dogs; the famous Affenberg monkey park next door does not.
💡 Avoid the daily 11:00 and 15:00 falconry shows with a sound-sensitive dog; the birds of prey can startle leashed pets.
