The 3rd-century BC Greco-Roman theatre, reworked by the Romans, is Sicily's most spectacular open-air archaeological site, with a panoramic cavea opening directly onto Etna (40 km west) and the Ionian Sea. Managed by Parco Archeologico Naxos-Taormina. Hosts the summer Taormina Arte concert season nightly. Open-air archaeological area; leashed dogs are admitted on the outdoor paths (confirm at the ticket office before visiting).
๐ก Arrive at 9:00 opening to beat the cruise ship and White Lotus tour groups; the cavea catches the morning sun on the orchestra and the Etna catches the morning light 40 km west, your dog walks the paved outer paths in shade and you have the panoramic backdrop almost to yourselves before 10:30.
