South Centre · Koninginnelaan, 8400 Oostende
The biggest park on the entire Belgian coast, a 36-hectare English-style landscape with a central lake, mature plane trees, jogging loops and a fenced hondenweide off-leash zone. Five minutes south-west of the station, the default morning dog loop for locals.
💡 Weekday mornings before 10:00 are the calmest social time at the hondenweide; the park lake circuit is best at sunset, when the light hits the plane trees.
Centre · Marie-Joseplein, 8400 Oostende
The small but central Marie-Jose park sits one block back from the seafront opposite the Kursaal, with mature trees and benches facing the North Sea. From here the leashed-dog Albert I-promenade runs 9 km along the coast to Mariakerke, the default sunset walk for locals.
💡 Walk west along the Albert I-promenade towards Mariakerke for a flat 4 km out-and-back; benches every 200 m and a sea breeze even in August.
Raversijde · Nieuwpoortsesteenweg 636, 8400 Oostende
An open-air WWII heritage park 5 km west of the centre along the coast at Raversijde, with surviving German bunkers from the Atlantic Wall and Belgian fishermen's huts set into the dunes. A 40-min leashed-dog loop through the coastal park is open year-round; the museum interior admits assistance dogs only.
💡 The morning loop before 11:00 is the quietest; the afternoon Kusttram drops off school groups at the museum entrance.
East · Spuikomlaan, 8400 Oostende
The Spuikom is a brackish inland lake east of the centre, originally a tidal flushing basin for the harbour and now used for water sports (windsurf, kitesurf, oyster farming). A flat 5 km perimeter trail welcomes leashed dogs year-round, quieter than the seafront, with views back to the Lange Nelle lighthouse.
💡 Walk anticlockwise from the Spuikomlaan car park for the prettiest light on the lighthouse at sunset; the southern stretch by the oyster farm is the quietest at any hour.
