Ostend is the Belgian Royal Resort on the North Sea, with 9 km of sandy promenade along the Albert I-coast. The entire coastline opens to leashed dogs in low season (mid-September to mid-April), and several designated dog-beach zones (Mariakerke, Raversijde, Oosteroever, Klein Strand Albertstrand, Westerstaketsel) accept dogs year-round. Zeedijk Mariakerke, 8400 Oostende
Ostend's main year-round dog-beach zone, 3 km west of the centre at Mariakerke. Wide sand strip backed by dunes, off-leash designated zone signposted at the Zeedijk entrance, beach cafes nearby. Reachable in 10 min by Kusttram from Ostend centre to Mariakerke Bad stop.
💡 Aim for low tide for the widest stretch of firm sand; the dog-beach signage at the Zeedijk entrance shows the exact zone boundaries.
Zeedijk Raversijde, 8400 Oostende
The quieter year-round dog-beach zone 5 km west of the centre at Raversijde, immediately adjacent to the Atlantikwall heritage park. Wide sand strip with bunker remnants visible from the dunes, off-leash designated zone, the calmest option on the Ostend coast even in July-August.
💡 Combine the Raversijde dog beach with the Atlantikwall park loop for a half-day, both are walking distance from the Kusttram stop.
Oosteroever, 8400 Oostende
The year-round dog-beach zone on the eastern side of the Ostend harbour, accessed via the harbour-bridge or harbour ferry from the centre. Wide sand strip facing the Lange Nelle lighthouse across the harbour mouth, off-leash designated zone, popular with locals and with a quieter vibe than the western seafront.
💡 Take the small harbour ferry (passenger only, dogs welcome on lead, runs all year) for the most scenic crossing from the centre to the dog beach; otherwise drive or cycle around via the harbour-bridge.
