Dog-Friendly Beaches Near Oslo

Huk is the most accessible of Oslo's beaches, located on the Bygdøy peninsula 20 minutes from the city centre by bus or ferry. The beach is divided into two sections — the western section has a designated area where dogs are permitted. It is a genuinely pleasant beach with good facilities, clear Oslofjord water, and the bonus of a short walk to the forested paths of Bygdøy itself. Reach it by Ruter ferry from Aker Brygge (line 91) or bus 30 to Bygdøynes.

Ingierstrand is a historic 1930s bathing resort south of Oslo with a beautiful art deco outdoor swimming structure, a café, and a long beach along the Oslofjord. There are dog-friendly sections of the beach, and the surrounding park area is open to dogs on leash. The setting is genuinely beautiful — broad fjord views, pine trees sloping to the water, and a relaxed atmosphere that feels removed from the city. It requires a car or a 40-minute bus journey from central Oslo, but rewards the effort.

Oslo's inner harbourfront has been transformed in the last two decades into a continuous waterfront promenade stretching from Aker Brygge through the Opera House to Sørenga. Dogs on leash are permitted throughout this entire route, which covers about 4 kilometres of fjordside walking with views of Akershus Fortress, the Opera House, and the Oslofjord islands. The Sørenga end has a popular outdoor seawater pool (Sørenga Sjøbad) where dogs are not permitted in the pool area but can walk the surrounding boardwalk.
