Getting Around Lausanne with Pets

The city's integrated public transport network covering buses, trams, the M1 (west-east metro line) and the M2 (hillside metro connecting Ouchy to Croisettes). Dogs travel free on all TL services with no restrictions on size, no carrier requirement, and no muzzle requirement. The M2 is particularly useful for dog owners: it connects Ouchy (lakeside) to the centre (Lausanne-Flon) in 7 minutes, climbing 100 metres of elevation that would otherwise require a long uphill walk.

Switzerland's national rail network, connecting Lausanne to Geneva (45 min), Bern (1h10), Zurich (2h20), and international destinations including Paris (3h40 by TGV). On SBB trains, dogs under 30cm shoulder height travel free in a carrier; dogs over 30cm pay a half-price fare with no muzzle or lead requirements on most services. SBB is one of the most pet-friendly national rail systems in Europe. The Lausanne station (Gare de Lausanne) is the main hub and is well-connected to the city centre by the TL network.

The CGN (Compagnie Générale de Navigation) operates passenger boats on Lake Geneva connecting Lausanne-Ouchy to Évian-les-Bains (35 min), Geneva (3h30 by scenic lake cruise), Montreux (1h30), and many other lakeside towns. Dogs are permitted on all CGN boats and travel at no extra charge. They are welcome on the open decks.
