Dog-Friendly Parks in Krakow

The Planty is one of Europe's most unusual and beautiful urban parks: a ring of 21 interconnected gardens totalling 4km that encircles the entire Krakow Old Town on the site of the medieval city walls. Walking the full Planty circuit with a dog is one of Krakow's essential experiences — passing through gardens of different characters, past historic gates, churches, and university buildings, with the Old Town always on one side and the city on the other. Dogs on leash are welcome throughout. Several café terraces open onto the Planty in summer.

Błonia is one of the largest and oldest urban meadows in Europe: 48 hectares of flat open grassland on the western edge of the Old Town. It has been used for centuries as a common ground and today functions as Krakow's primary outdoor recreation space. Dogs are allowed off-leash across the open meadow (keep leashed on the perimeter paths) and it is by far the best place in Krakow to give a dog an unrestricted run. On Sunday mornings, the meadow fills with hundreds of dogs and their owners in a spontaneous social gathering. Views from the meadow toward Kosciuszko Mound and the distant Tatra mountains on clear days are extraordinary.

The Kosciuszko Mound (Kopiec Kościuszki) is a man-made hill built in 1823 to commemorate Poland's national hero Tadeusz Kościuszko, offering 360-degree panoramic views of Krakow, the Vistula valley, and on clear days the Tatra mountains. Dogs on leash are welcome on the mound and surrounding paths. Adjacent to the mound is Las Wolski — a 400-hectare urban forest with marked hiking trails. Dogs are welcome on all forest trails. One of the best half-day excursions from central Krakow.

Zakrzówek is a stunning turquoise reservoir in a former limestone quarry on the south side of the Vistula, now developed as a public swimming and recreational area. Dogs are welcome on the surrounding paths and in the recreational areas. The turquoise water is extraordinarily beautiful — one of Krakow's most photogenic spots. The area connects to the Vistula riverbank walking paths and the Twardowski rocks climbing area. A superb half-day destination in good weather.
