Klagenfurt is built between the Wörthersee and the wooded Kreuzbergl hill. Green space is everywhere: the Europapark stretches along the eastern lake shore, the Kreuzbergl forest rises directly behind the Altstadt, and the Lendkanal links the city to the lake with a 4 km dog-friendly path.

💡 Reach the foothills in a 10-minute walk west of the Altstadt. Pack water in summer; the forest stays 4 to 6 degrees cooler than the city.

Large landscaped park stretching along the eastern Wörthersee shore from Minimundus to the Strandbad. Flat lakeside paths, mature trees, the Minimundus miniature park and the open-air Planetarium are inside. The locals' default lake walk.
💡 Walk from the Altstadt via the Lendkanal in 25 minutes, or bus 10 to Strandbad. Avoid the Strandbad main beach in summer (dogs banned in bather zone, OK on park paths).

The 18th-century canal that links the Altstadt to the Wörthersee, with a continuous towpath on both banks. Plane trees, benches, swans and ducks. The most photogenic flat walk in the city.
💡 Walk one bank out and the other back for a 1h15 loop. Sunrise from the Altstadt end and sunset from the lake end are both spectacular.
