Getting Around Hévíz with a Dog

A frequent local bus connects Hévíz to Keszthely (and its train station) in about 10 minutes for roughly 400 HUF, running every two hours. Small dogs travel in a carrier and larger leashed dogs are generally accepted, as on most Hungarian VOLÁN regional buses.

Hévíz has no railway station of its own. The nearest MÁV stations are in Keszthely (about 8 km) and Balatonszentgyörgy, both connected onward to Hévíz by local bus or taxi. Dogs on a lead or in a carrier are accepted on Hungarian trains for a reduced ticket.

A trackless tourist train loops through central Hévíz and around the lake perimeter from March to October, a relaxed way to get oriented on a hot day. Small dogs in a bag or carrier are generally welcome on board; check with the driver before boarding with a larger dog.
