Dog Parks & Green Spaces in Hannover

Germany's largest urban forest at 640 hectares — 2.5× Central Park. Dogs must be leashed on the main paths but three designated Hundefreilaufflächen sit inside the forest (near the Zoo, at Steuerndieb, and at Lister Turm). Over 80 km of marked trails.

A 78-hectare artificial lake built in the 1930s with a full 6 km leashed walking loop along both shores. Row and sail clubs, several cafés, and a designated Hundebadestelle (dog swim spot) at the southern end where dogs may swim off-leash.

The famous baroque Herrenhäuser Gärten complex — the main Große Garten (paid entry) prohibits dogs, but the adjacent Georgengarten (free, 47 hectares) is fully dog-friendly on leash with the tree-lined Herrenhäuser Allee and the Leine river footpaths.
