Pet-Friendly Attractions in Florence

The most famous viewpoint in Florence, overlooking the entire city from the Oltrarno hill, is free, open 24 hours, and fully accessible to dogs on-leash. The walk up through the hillside gardens and staircases is itself a pleasure, and the view at sunrise or sunset is genuinely world-class. Several bar-restaurants around the piazzale have outdoor terraces where dogs are welcome.

The Ponte Vecchio itself is a public thoroughfare — dogs on-leash are fully permitted on the bridge and along the Lungarni on both sides. This is one of the great free walking experiences in Florence: crossing the Ponte Vecchio with your dog, walking the Oltrarno Lungarno west toward Ponte Santa Trinita, then crossing back through the historic centre. Best in the early morning before the tourist crowds arrive.

The San Lorenzo market area and the streets around Mercato Centrale are among the most authentic and dog-friendly parts of Florence. The outdoor street market around the leather stalls is dog-accessible, and several neighbourhood trattorias and wine bars on the side streets have outdoor tables where dogs are welcomed. The indoor food hall (Mercato Centrale al piano di sopra) does not allow dogs, but the surrounding streets are excellent.
