Zuydcoote / Bray-Dunes (8 km east of Dunkerque centre) ยท Avenue Pasteur, 59123 Zuydcoote
A 220-hectare protected dune reserve between Zuydcoote and Bray-Dunes managed by Eden 62, the Pas-de-Calais conservatoire, with 8 km of marked sandy trails through grey dunes, dune slacks (pannes) and salt-tolerant grasslands. Home to natterjack toads, marsh helleborine orchids and one of the largest European populations of liparis loeselii (Loesel's twayblade). Leashed dogs welcome year-round on all trails; seasonal off-leash zones permitted outside the April-July ground-nesting bird season.
๐ก Park at Zuydcoote and walk the dune ridge trail east towards Bray-Dunes at 8:00 in summer; your dog has 4 km of empty sand and marram grass to itself before the day visitors arrive, with views across the Channel to England on clear days and the De Panne casino tower visible to the east at the Belgian border.
