Getting Around Dublin with Your Dog

Dublin's public transport system is genuinely dog-friendly by the standards of European capitals. All three main modes — Dublin Bus, the Luas tram, and DART rail — permit dogs, though the rules differ slightly. The general principle is straightforward: a short lead, good behaviour, and consideration for other passengers. Dublin Bus and Luas do not require a carrier for small dogs, which makes them more accessible than many equivalent systems across Europe. Taxis and ride-hailing apps are at driver discretion, but in practice most Dublin taxi drivers will accept a well-behaved dog. The city centre is also very walkable, and for many journeys between the canal ring and the bay, walking with your dog is the most practical option.
