The Gravediggers (John Kavanagh's)
Glasnevin ยท 1 Prospect Square, Glasnevin, Dublin 9
One of Dublin's most famous and unchanged pubs, operating since 1833 and sitting directly alongside Glasnevin Cemetery. The Gravediggers earned its nickname from the gravediggers who used to pass pints through the back wall to workers in the cemetery. Today it remains a no-frills, no-music, conversation-focused pub where the Guinness is poured with patience and the atmosphere is entirely authentic. Dogs are welcome in the outdoor area and have been regulars here for generations. The dark interior and quiet reverence of the place make it an experience quite unlike anywhere else in Dublin.
๐ก Come on a weekday afternoon when it is quietest. The walk through Glasnevin Cemetery beforehand is an excellent warm-up with a dog
