Dog-Friendly Beaches Around Brest

Brest's main supervised city beach on the Rade de Brest, in front of Océanopolis and the marina. Fine sand, sheltered swimming and easy bus access from the centre. Dogs are banned in summer when the lifeguards are on duty but the beach reopens to leashed dogs from October 1 to May 31.

A small family cove on the west side of the Goulet de Brest, tucked below low cliffs near the IFREMER oceanographic centre. The bay is sheltered, the sand is mixed with rock pools, and the surrounding GR34 sentier des douaniers continues westward toward the Conquet. Dogs allowed off-season.

A 2 km arc of white sand backed by dunes, 25 minutes drive west of Brest near the Pointe Saint-Mathieu. Atlantic swell, classified Natura 2000 dunes, and one of the longest beaches in north Finistère. Dogs are allowed on the unsupervised northern end year-round and on the rest of the beach outside summer.
