Getting Around Bolzano with a Dog

SASA operates the urban bus network across Bolzano with electric and hybrid buses on routes radiating from the railway station. Guide dogs and small dogs in a carrier (max 70×30×50 cm) travel free. Larger dogs travel on leash and muzzled, and require a passenger ticket validated on board. Single tickets cost €1.50 and are valid 60 minutes for an unlimited number of transfers.

Bolzano station sits on the Brenner railway connecting Verona/Milan southbound with Innsbruck/Munich northbound. Trenitalia regional trains take small dogs in a carrier free; larger dogs travel on leash and muzzled for €5 per journey. Frecciarossa to Milan/Rome requires a half-price adult ticket for larger dogs. ÖBB Railjet to Austria follows similar rules (small free, larger pay half).

Bolzano has no major international airport of its own (the small BZO Bolzano-Dolomiti has limited service). The nearest commercial airports are Verona (VRN, 145 km south, ~90 min by car or via Brenner train change) and Innsbruck (INN, 115 km north, ~2h by car).
