Dog Parks & Walks in Bled

The lake circuit is the defining Bled experience and one of the great urban dog walks in Europe. The 6 km loop hugs the shore the entire way, alternating between paved promenade on the eastern (village) side and gravel forest path on the wilder western and northern shores. Constant views of Bled Island and the church, the castle clifftop, and the Karavanke and Julian Alps beyond. Almost completely flat. Cafés and benches dotted along the eastern half, total silence on the western half. The full circuit takes around 90 minutes at a comfortable pace with a dog.

A 646 m wooded hill rising directly above the southern shore of Lake Bled, with a chairlift in summer and a ski piste in winter. The 30 to 45 minute climb from the lake on a marked forest trail is excellent with a leashed dog, and the panoramic terrace at the top offers a postcard view of the lake, island, and castle from a different angle than the more famous Mala Osojnica viewpoint. The chairlift operators do generally allow small dogs in a carrier (verify on the day with the operator).

A high (1 300 m) limestone plateau covered in old-growth spruce forest, 20 km west of Bled inside Triglav National Park. Pokljuka is the launching point for some of the most rewarding dog-friendly hiking in the area, gentle forest tracks, the Sankaška proga cross-country ski trails turned summer walking routes, and access to the Pokljuška soteska gorge. Dogs must be on a leash throughout Triglav National Park, particularly from April to October to protect ground-nesting birds and grazing livestock. Cooler than the lake in summer, snowshoeing terrain in winter.
