Pet-Friendly Attractions in Bern

Bern's signature attraction — a 6 000 m² hillside enclosure for the city's three brown bears (Björk, Finn and daughter Ursina), opening directly onto the Aare bank below the Old Town. Open free of charge 24h, with leashed dogs welcome on visitor paths and the BäreBähnli inclined lift. The bears bathe in the Aare canal in summer; the lower riverside terrace is the best viewing point.

Switzerland's largest UNESCO-listed medieval centre — a sandstone-arcaded grid of streets unchanged since the 17th century, with the 13th-century Zytglogge astronomical clock tower at its heart. Dogs on lead are welcome throughout; the 6 km of covered Lauben means the streets remain dog-walkable in any weather. Cobblestones can be hard on paws in summer heat — keep to the arcade shade.

The classic postcard view of Bern — a hilltop public park east of the Old Town with 220 rose varieties (peak in June) and the most photographed panorama of the UNESCO Altstadt curving around the Aare bend. Dogs on lead are welcome throughout the park, on the lawn terraces, and on the restaurant terrace. Reached by bus 10 from the centre in 7 minutes or a 15-minute uphill walk from the BärenPark.
