Dog-Friendly Attractions in and around Belfast

A 1.6 km waymarked waterfront promenade from the SS Nomadic at the Hamilton Dock to the Sailortown Heritage area, looping past the Titanic slipways, the iconic Harland & Wolff cranes Samson and Goliath, and the HMS Caroline WWI cruiser. Dogs welcome on the entire outdoor route on a lead, although none of the indoor attractions (Titanic Belfast, SS Nomadic, HMS Caroline) admit non-assistance dogs.

The 940-acre National Trust estate on the Ards Peninsula overlooking Strangford Lough, with one of the most botanically important gardens in Ireland (a microclimate allows Mediterranean species like cordylines and palms to thrive). Dogs welcome on leads throughout the wider estate parklands and the Lakeside Walks (5 km), but not in the formal Italian and Spanish gardens directly around the house.

Northern Ireland's only UNESCO natural site, 40,000 basalt columns dropping into the Atlantic, formed by Palaeogene volcanic activity 60 million years ago. Dogs welcome on leads on the entire coastal trail and basalt-column area, but not inside the visitor centre. The 8 km blue cliff-top trail combined with the red shore trail is the classic dog-walking loop, dramatic and entirely free of dog restrictions outside the visitor centre.
