Dog-Friendly Attractions in Ambleside

The best way to see England's largest lake, on classic steamers and launches that run from the Waterhead pier at the head of Windermere down to Bowness, Brockhole and Lakeside. Dogs travel free on every scheduled sailing, with water bowls provided on board.

The tiny 17th-century house perched on a single arch over Stock Beck, one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and the emblem of Ambleside. The exterior, its steps and the little garden beside it are open around the clock, so it makes a charming free stop on any town stroll with a dog.

A tranquil woodland garden on the hillside above Waterhead, famous in spring for its rhododendrons, azaleas and camellias, with paths leading up into Skelghyll Woods and to the Jenkin Crag viewpoint over the lake. Dogs on leads are welcome in the garden and the surrounding woods.
