Wide kilometre-long urban beach with the traditional fishermen`s tents drying peixe seco al sol on the northern end. Strict concession during summer, but the dry sand becomes openly dog-tolerant from October once the lifeguards leave and the bandeiras are removed.

The world-record big-wave beach where Garrett McNamara surfed a 23.8 m wave in 2011 and the WSL Big Wave Tour now visits every winter. Mostly non-concessioned, fully dog-tolerant year-round on the dry sand, but the sea itself is dangerous in any swell and dogs should never enter the water.

Quieter Atlantic surf beach between Nazaré and São Martinho do Porto, ringed by cliffs and dunes. Non-concessioned over most of its length, the most reliable beach in the area for a real walk and a sea swim with a dog outside the July–August peak.
