Dog Walks & Green Space in Zahara de los Atunes

A gentle 4 km coastal trail starting beside the Castillo de las Almadrabas and running along dune boardwalks and a sandy path between the Río Cachón and the Cabo de Plata cliff. It takes around an hour and a quarter at an easy pace, with sweeping views of the Atlantic and the Atlanterra coast, making it the village's signature dog walk outside the summer beach ban.

The nearest dedicated off-leash dog area, in the town of Barbate a short drive from Zahara. It is a fenced green space where dogs can run free and socialise, a useful release valve in summer when the Zahara beaches are closed to dogs. Pair it with a walk along Barbate's port and the quieter Playa de la Yerbabuena.

Just beyond Barbate, the Breña natural park protects dramatic Atlantic cliffs and one of the few coastal pine forests in Andalusia, with marked trails offering rare summer shade. Dogs on a leash are a common sight on the cliff-top paths between Barbate and Los Caños de Meca, and the canopy makes it a much cooler walk than the open dunes.
