Dog Swim Spots & Beaches near Utrecht

A groundwater-fed recreation lake on the west edge of the city. From 1 September to 1 April it is an off-leash dog area where dogs can swim from the grass banks (but never the marked human beach). Outside that window it is a swim lake for people, and dogs must stay leashed and off the sand. Quiet, well-signed, with parking, toilets and a snack kiosk.

Inside Máximapark, a chain of clean shallow ponds in the off-leash zone is the most reliable city swim for dogs in summer. The water is calm, the bottom is gentle, and ample shaded grass on either side makes it easy to manage drying off. Always inside a marked losloopgebied, so legal off-leash and on-leash both work.

The Kromme Rijn meanders along the eastern edge of Landgoed Amelisweerd and offers a calm, slow river current with shallow gravelly entries that work for dogs of any size. Dogs must be leashed on Amelisweerd itself, but the riverbank stretches and the towpath are popular splash spots in summer; respect anglers and stay 50 m from any fishing rod.
