Dog-Friendly Attractions in San Diego

The 1,200-acre cultural park at the heart of the city, with Spanish Colonial Revival architecture lining the El Prado promenade and a chain of gardens, lawns and canyon trails behind it. Leashed dogs are welcome throughout the outdoor grounds, and three separate off-leash dog parks sit inside the park boundaries at Nate's Point, Morley Field and Grape Street.

A 68-acre coastal park dedicated in 1983, running along the Pacific edge of Point Loma with carved bluffs, arches and sea caves below and open blufftop paths above. It is the classic San Diego sunset walk, and a leashed dog is welcome on the paths under the standard city rule of a lead no longer than 8 feet.

The federal monument at the tip of Point Loma, marking Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo's 1542 landing, with sweeping views over the bay, the city and the naval base. One trail only is open to dogs, the Coastal Trail, an easy half-mile route along the ocean side of the headland that still delivers the view most visitors come for.
