At around 170 hectares, Royal Park is the largest park in the City of Melbourne and carries three separate off-leash areas: the oval south of Macarthur Road, plus Poplar Oval and McPherson Field in the northern half. The open grassland and native plantings make it feel far bigger than its distance from the CBD suggests.
Rules: Three designated off-leash areas; leashed elsewhere. Some zones inside the park prohibit dogs at all times, so read the entrance signs.
๐ก Melbourne Zoo sits inside the park boundary and does not admit dogs, so keep the walk to the western and northern grasslands.
