Dog Parks and Green Spaces in Los Angeles

The largest municipal park with urban wilderness in the US: 1700 hectares of chaparral hills above Hollywood and Los Feliz, with more than 80 km of trails open to leashed dogs from sunrise to sunset. The classic 5 km loop from the Greek Theatre via the Charlie Turner Trail to the Griffith Observatory terrace gives the iconic Hollywood Sign view from above, with the observatory's exterior plaza fully dog-friendly (interior galleries are service animals only). The park also has fenced dog runs in the Wonder View and Travel Town sectors.

A 65-hectare canyon park rising straight out of Hollywood with three marked off-leash sections covering most of the central trail spine. The 4.7 km loop from the Fuller Avenue gate climbs to two ridgeline panoramas over Hollywood, downtown LA on a clear day and the Pacific to the west at sunset. Runyon is the spiritual home of the LA dog-walking scene; mornings on weekends are a who's-who of off-leash dogs from Laurel Canyon and West Hollywood.

A 0.8-hectare fenced dog park on the south shore of the Silver Lake Reservoir, with separate small and large dog sections, shaded picnic tables, water fountains for dogs and pavers (no muddy bare ground). The reservoir loop right outside the fence is a popular 4 km leashed walk with downtown LA views. The park is community-managed and famously social; weekday evenings 18:00–20:00 are the locals' peak hour.
