Dog Parks & Walks in Ljubljana

Ljubljana's largest park, covering around 510 hectares including the Tivoli formal gardens, the Rožnik forested hill, and the Šišenski hrib ridge. The main formal garden area (closer to the city centre) requires dogs to be on a leash. The western forested sections — Rožnik hill and beyond — offer a much more relaxed environment for longer walks with dogs. The climb to the Church of St Mary on Rožnik is a popular morning walk with local dog owners, and the hilltop views over the city are excellent. Dogs must be on a leash throughout.

A modern urban park in the northeast of Ljubljana, Šmartinski park was developed on a former industrial site and inaugurated in 2010. It spans 11 hectares with spacious lawns, walking paths, Slovenia's first water playground, and — most importantly for dog owners — a dedicated 1,500m² off-leash dog park, the largest in Ljubljana. Clean, well-maintained, with car parking nearby. Adjacent to the BTC City shopping complex if you need to combine with errands.

A peaceful park in the western part of Ljubljana centred on the Koseze Pond, a small natural lake surrounded by greenery and walking paths. Popular with local dog owners, particularly in the morning hours. The nearby Bratov Učakar Street has a dedicated dog park. A quieter, more local alternative to Tivoli. Dogs can walk along the pond's perimeter path in a relaxed natural setting.

The pedestrianised banks of the Ljubljanica through the city centre form one of Europe's most pleasant urban riverside walks. Flat, scenic, and continuously lined with cafés and restaurants, the stretch from the Triple Bridge through Cankarjevo nabrežje to the Špica promontory is perfect with a dog. The Dragon Bridge and Butcher's Bridge are architectural highlights along the route. Dogs on a leash are welcome throughout. Combine with a stop at any of the riverfront cafés for the quintessential Ljubljana experience.
