Best season
May–June and September–early October are ideal: 16–22°C, dry, terraces in full swing. Late November to mid-December for the Christmas markets (Christkindlmarkt am Hauptplatz). Avoid January–February (cold, often snow).
Graz is one of Austria's most dog-friendly cities: small UNESCO Altstadt, strong Wirtshaus culture welcoming dogs indoors, generous off-leash zones, and one 24/7 emergency vet. The student population (~50,000 of 290,000) keeps the city young, relaxed and pet-positive.

The Schlossberg rises 123 m from the centre. The zigzag stairway is steep but shaded; the Schlossbergbahn funicular (dogs ride free) is the easy alternative. Reaching the top in summer afternoon heat with a heavy-coated dog is rough, go early or late.
Austria uses the euro. Graz is cheaper than Vienna or Salzburg: meal 15–28 EUR, Schnitzel platter 12–18 EUR, mid-range pet-friendly hotel 100–170 EUR/night, taxi Hbf to Hauptplatz 8–12 EUR.
