A long, quiet stretch of sand below the cliffs at Saint Leonards Road, reached by a short path down from the street and largely ignored by tourists. It is the one central Auckland beach where a dog can be off the lead at any hour of any day of the year, which makes it the default choice for anyone staying on the North Shore.
📅 Open all year with no seasonal restriction. Summer from December to February gives water around 20 degrees; the winter months are the best for a long walk, since the sand empties and the wind drops in the lee of the cliffs.
Rules: Off-leash at all times, with no summer time window. The dog must still be under control and you must carry a lead. Clean up after your dog: bins are at the top of the access path rather than on the sand.
