Jūrmala is Latvia's premier beach resort, stretching 26km along the Baltic coast. The Majori and Bulduri beach sections are the most visited. Dogs are permitted on the beach with a leash from 1 November to 31 March only — the rest of the year (April to October) dogs are prohibited on the main beach. In the off-season, the empty Baltic beach is exceptional with a dog: wide white sand, pine forest backing, and almost no one around. Dog waste stations are available.

For dogs that need to swim within Riga city limits year-round, the designated dog zone at Lucavsala island on the Daugava offers a riverside beach with free access. Not the Baltic sea, but a legitimate sandy riverside area where dogs can enter the water freely. Accessible year-round, free of charge, and far less crowded than Jūrmala in any season.
