One of the Mediterranean's most important loggerhead turtle nesting beaches and a Nature Protection Area within the National Marine Park. Dogs are banned, umbrellas are restricted, visitors must stay near the waterline, and the beach is closed from dusk to dawn during the May to October nesting season.

One of the longest sandy beaches on the island, on the east side of the Vasilikos peninsula and outside the strictest marine park nesting zones. It is generally relaxed about a leashed, well-behaved dog, with watersports, sunbeds, and beach catering, though it gets busy in peak summer.

Away from Laganas Bay, the north and west coasts have smaller, less organised coves and pebble beaches where a leashed dog is usually welcome at quieter hours. There are no formal dog beaches on Zakynthos, so these informal spots are the most relaxed option for a swim.
