The longest beach in Asturias at nearly 3 km, on the Castrillón coast near Salinas. The left-hand half is a marked, year-round dog zone of around 250 m, separated from the human side and equipped with showers and fountains for dogs and people. This is the closest fully reliable dog beach to Oviedo and the best bet for a summer swim with your dog when the urban beaches are closed. Verify the current dog-zone limits with Castrillón turismo before going.

Asturias`s first official dog beach, opened in 2015 at the eastern end of Gijón`s seafront below the Cervigón cliffs, an easy add-on to a Gijón day trip from Oviedo. The designated canine area lets dogs swim and play within marked limits; the rest of Gijón`s urban beaches (including the famous Playa de San Lorenzo) ban dogs during the summer bathing season. Note that the future Gijón animal-welfare ordinance under review in 2026 may change canine access here, so confirm the current status before travelling.

A wide, wild Blue Flag beach at the mouth of the Villaviciosa estuary, backed by a protected eucalyptus and pine forest and famous for its right-hand surf wave. Outside the summer bathing season dogs are generally allowed on lead, and the adjacent estuary marismas and forest paths make a beautiful off-season dog walk year-round. During the summer bathing season (1 Jun–30 Sep) dogs are restricted on the main bathing strip, so plan a spring or autumn visit or confirm the current Villaviciosa rules.
